About Honoring the Animals

The International Association of Pet Cemeteries (IAPC) has designated the second Sunday in September as National Pet Memorial Day. Most pet cemeteries observe this day with special ceremonies, open houses, and other events. Honoring the Animals is a candlelight vigil that is held in observance of this day. In 2010, an Animal Blessing was added to HTA and is now part of the program. This annual event is presented by Chance's Spot, Pet Loss and Support Resources, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that assists pet caregivers and professionals with pet loss and grief.

About Chance's Spot

Chance's Spot provides an online support group, publications on pet loss, hotline numbers, referrals and an online tributes page where pet caregivers can post tributes to their departed pets. Locally, Chance's Spot provides educational presentations on the topic of pet loss and compassion fatigue to pet caregivers, pet care professionals and rescue and shelter workers. Our yearly fundraisers help educate and support pet caregivers in understanding the grief associated with losing a pet.

Chance's Spot relies solely on the generous support and donations from individuals, corporations and foundations to provide our services. All contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. For more information about Chance's Spot, our programs or services, or to make a donation, please visit their Web site at: www.chancesspot.org.
