About Honoring the Animals

The International Association of Pet Cemeteries (IAPC) has designated the second Sunday in September as National Pet Memorial Day. Most pet cemeteries observe this day with special ceremonies, open houses, and other events. Honoring the Animals is a candlelight vigil that is held in observance of this day. This annual event is presented by Chance's Spot, Pet Loss and Support Resources, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that assists pet caregivers and professionals with pet loss and grief.

Chance's Spot Welcomes Actress Diane Gaidry to HTA 2010!Actress Diane Gaidry

This year's Honoring the Animals Candlelight Vigil will be the best ever as Chance's Spot welcomes actress Diane Gaidry as our very special guest. Diane has appeared in the hit series, Medium and has starred in the independent film, "Loving Annabelle" for which she won the Best Actress award at Outfest in 2006. Chance's Spot, in partnership with the New Albany-Flyod County Animal Control and Shelter, will be showing another of Diane's movies, "The DogWalker" on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at The Hotel Louisville.

If you would like to attend The Dogwalker, you will need to purchase advance tickets.

IF YOU ARE TRAVELING TO LOUISVILLE

If you are traveling to Louisville for Honoring the Animals and need a place to stay, we ask that you kindly support our host, The Wayside Christian Mission by reserving a room at The Hotel Louisville. The hotel is located in beautiful downtown Louisville, Kentucky and is within walking distance of many fine restaurants and shopping establishments. Luxury rooms start at $49 per night and include a continental breakfast. For reservations and more information, please call: 502-542-2241

This will be a weekend of celebration and remembrance as we honor the animals. We'll also be adding a Blessing of the Animals to our vigil this year, so be sure to join us!

The 2009 Honoring the Animals Online Album - Available Now

Our HTA 2009 photo album is now available for viewing. This was our third year, so we have even more pictures to share. Please enable popups and view the 2009 album here.

The 2007 Honoring the Animals Online Album

Although it was our first year, we had a wonderful turnout in spite of bad weather earlier in the day. In 2008 however, we were not as lucky. Hurricane Ike struck and HTA 2008 was canceled. Please enable popups and view the 2007 album here.
